Berlin – Beijing

by Ole Aselmann and O-Team

„Only after the essence of survival there can be arts. Most of the time I thought about food. Every now and then there are moments of happiness, but it is rarely fun“ Ole Aselmann

This O-Team play is based on a true story: The artist Ole Aselmann grapples with his work. So he goes on a pilgrimage to China, searching for solitude, inspiration and the mysteries of the far east. He has the vision of marrying the daughter of a party official, begetting little Buddhas and becoming a chinese artist of the state. Walking alone from Berlin to Beijing. Something between 10.000 and 11.000 km, around one year of traveling altogether, through Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and China.

On his way, Aselmann wrote a diary about his observations and adventures, his daily pleasures and tortures. The TV shows, radio programs and supermarket products he encountered, add up to an absurd documentary of a globalized world. The search of the unknown develops into the recurrence of the same.
